If you’re planning on travelling to a different state this hunting season, you need to know what to expect. It’s important to familiarize yourself with that state’s hunting regulations and prepare your equipment. Here’s a list of a few things you’ll want to think about before you cross state lines to harvest that sought-after buck.

State Regulations

Make sure you review and understand the hunting regulations for the state you’ll be hunting in. Make note of whether they have different rules on hunting from ground blinds. Make sure your hunting trip is during the official, legal hunting season. Buy an out-of-state hunting license if you need to. In Minnesota, for example, out-of-state hunters can buy non-resident licenses for varying fees, depending on the type of game you’d like a license for. A regular, non-resident deer license is $185. So, make sure you’re prepared to buy the license as soon as you’re able.

Packing Your Stump Blind

When you go out of state for a hunt, you’re likely going to want to take your roomy, comfortable Stump blind with you. Check the state regulations about setting up stands or blinds on public property before you go. In Minnesota, you are allowed to use ground blinds on public hunting property, though it is understood that when you leave the Stump blind in the woods, someone else has the right to use your blind because it’s on public property. Check and see if the state you’re hunting in is the same.

If you want to avoid someone coming into your blind while you leave for lunch, consider adding our Locking Door Handle to your Stump blind. The lock attaches to any of the Stump blinds’ doors by unscrewing the existing handle and latch and screwing in the new door handle. The handles come with two keys, so you can share one with your hunting buddy or keep a spare. This will help deter other hunters from walking in and using your blind when you’re not there.

Our Stump ‘Scout’ Blinds have a good chance of adhering to other states’ hunting regulations. Since they are a ground blind and not elevated, they can more easily be removed from the property at the end of the hunting day. Our Stump blinds can easily be transferred from one spot to another, which will be helpful when you’re trying to find the perfect spot for your blind in an unfamiliar area. You can move the blind with your truck, vehicle or ATV until you find the ideal place to set up shop.

Wash Your Clothes Before You Go

Before you head out for your trip, make sure you wash your hunting clothes in scent-free detergent. You don’t want to put clothes that smell like fragrant detergent or weeks of sweat in your luggage. The scents will be trapped in your bags and will only intensify on the way over. It’s best to pack clothes that were washed in scent-free detergent and haven’t been worn since.

Wherever you venture to on your out-of-state hunting adventure, make sure you go in prepared. You’d hate to run into any surprises right before your hunt. Check the state’s regulations and buy any of the necessary licenses. Check their policies on ground blinds. Most importantly, make sure your equipment and hunting clothes are working properly and are ready to go. If you do your research, you should have a fun and successful hunt in an exciting new location.
