We’re less than a month away from opening day of deer season here in Minnesota on Sept. 13! Check your to-do list to see what needs to be done this month, in August, to prep for opening day. We’ve got some suggestions to get you started, below.

Put Together Your Hunting Backpack

Put together a backpack filled with the hunting essentials you’ll need for your first hunt of the season. Putting the backpack together now will alert you to any missing items that you might have forgotten about while there’s still time to go get them. You likely already have your bow and arrows, but make sure you have a compass, map, flashlight, first aid kit, scent eliminating spray, a knife to attach the tag to your deer and most importantly: your tags.

If you’re going to field dress the deer yourself, you can kill two birds with one stone — or in this case, two deer — by using our Bucket Backpack. It has five pockets on the outside of the pack so you can easily store all your accessories. You can also carry things inside the interior bucket until it’s time to load in the deer meat. The bucket holds five gallons, so you’ll have plenty of room to take your harvest home with you.

Accessorize Your Blind

Once you’ve put together your backpack, get any accessories you don’t already have for inside your blind. You can check out our Stump Green Light. It’s a 3-Watt COB bulb with 200 lumens and two different light settings. It comes with two holes so you can mount it to anything inside your blind, including our Storage Shelf.

Check out our M360 Chair for ultimate comfort and mobility. It adjusts to anywhere from 18-23 inches high, so it has a wide range that will fit you and any of your hunting partners. It’s important to be able to align yourself with the window properly, so the adjustable height will help you achieve that. It has five rolling wheels and no arm rests, so you can roll over to each window and quickly draw your bow at any moment without worrying about battling with the armrests.

Set Up Your Blind

If you haven’t set up your blind yet, now is the time. You still have a few weeks before you start hunting from it, so if you act fast you can be set up in your ideal location in time for opening day. Our Steel Tower System is so easy to put together, you can assemble it directly on the hunting property without needing a workshop. The kit comes with all the required nuts and bolts. So, check out our 4-foot, 8-foot and 12-foot options. It’s compatible with any of our Stump blinds except for the Ice and Scout line of products. The textured ladder steps will keep you safe and secure as you enter and exit the blind.

If you make sure these things are in place before the season opens, you’re setting yourself up for a low-stress hunting season where you can pick up your gear and get out to the blind from Day One. Check out our products and place an order for anything you’re still missing. The countdown begins!

Post-Season Deer Behavior: What Changes After the Hunting Pressure Drops
